Day One – 3rd of January 2010

Woo hoo today we got to the Philippines!!! Conan almost missed the plane thinking we weren’t leaving until the next day, but a call from Greg got him out of bed and to the airport in time. The trip was long and tiring, but the teams arrived in Manilla safe and sound about 2pm. Driving in the city highlighted what a different world we live in and the contrast of the slums next to high rise buildings was humbling. On the way to the guest house we stopped at Burger King (the equivalent to our Hungry Jacks) and they had criss cross fries which were delicious as.

The guest house is next to a church that was having a concert with kids from the orphanage when we arrived. We went to have a sing and dance and saw Renee one of our favourites that we met on a trip four years ago. Dinner was amazing and we chatted to some of the Americans, one in particular was Josie Long who has just started a beauty salon that she is training six Filipino ladies to work in – cool stuff.

After dinner we shot some hoops by ourselves and with some local kids. Now off to bed to rest up for an intense but no doubt incredible and rewarding two weeks. Thanks for all the support, prayers for our health and for open hearts for the people we are ministering to will be much appreciated.

Over and Out xx

Carly.

Hi Guys,

Great to hear that you all made it safe and sound. I look forward for the next two weeks to be able to read of the wonderful things you will be doing. Enjoy every minute of the trip and soak in the filipino culture. Filipino's are amazing loving people who will be really excited to meet you and to listen to what you have to say.

Please say a hello to Gary V (the weapon) Rollie, Pastor Rey and Gummy (maybe Brad only, sorry Brad I could'nt resist).

God Bless

P.S. Please make sure that Mel Gibson gets plenty of chicken on a stick and Halo Halo. He cannot perform to his best without it.

hey boys and girls,
remember that excitement is the key! a little birdy told me the great larry bird will be with you on the tour...be sure to get him pumped in the warmups or he will not shoot well (also a cup of hot cocoa before bed and somebody like valenti should tuck him in to keep him from being homesick...
From Mr Excitement and Sammy MacDoDo who are snuggled up on the couch trying to tune in Filipino cable TV in time for your first tip-off!
